SARA

Founder & Lead Mentor

sara_edited_edited.jpg

I am a first-generation Colombian-American. I am a certified and licensed bilingual SLP in New York. I graduated from Adelphi University with my masters, TSSLD, and bilingual extension. In 2021 I completed an additional bilingual extension at Columbia Teachers College, Bilingual Extension Institute.

I started my career as an Early Intervention SLP, transitioned to the preschool setting, and I am currently working as a bilingual school-based elementary SLP. My passion is working and advocating for bilingual students and their families.

In the summer of 2021, I took the initiative to mentor 2 students who were pursuing a career as bilingual SLPs. My vision was simple, to guide and encourage minority students. There are not many bilinguals in the field and I felt strongly that bilingual students and SLPs should connect to help diversify and increase the 8% in the field of speech-language pathology. As the founder of the mentorship program, I looks forward to meeting new bilingual mentees and mentors throughout the country as the program grows.

I am proud to be a bilingual SLP and I encourage all multicultural students and SLPs to join the B.E.A.M. SLP Program.
