Sara is a first-generation Colombian-American. She has been a certified and licensed bilingual SLP in New York for 4 years. Sara graduated from Adelphi University with her masters, TSSLD, and bilingual extension. In 2021 Sara completed her bilingual extension at Teachers College, Bilingual Extension Institute.
Sara started her career as an Early Intervention SLP, transitioned to the preschool setting, and is currently working as a bilingual school-based elementary SLP. Sara’s passion is working and advocating for bilingual students and their families.
In the summer of 2021, Sara took the initiative to mentor 2 students who were pursuing to be bilingual SLPs. Her vision was simple, to guide and encourage minority students. There are not many bilinguals in the field and Sara felt strongly that bilingual COMD students and SLPs should connect to help diversify and increase the 8% in the field of speech-language pathology. As the founder of the BEAM SLP Program, Sara looks forward to meeting new bilingual mentees and mentors throughout the country as the program grows.
Sara is a proud bilingual SLP and encourages all multicultural students and SLPs to join the B.E.A.M. SLP Program.
